Others know exactly where they want to go but need help bringing the pieces together. Some have already planned most of their trip and simply want a trusted second opinion.Travel design isn't defined by a particular travel style or budget. It's about creating a journey that feels right for you.

How does the process work?

Every Blue Gato journey begins with understanding.Start with our Discovery Assessment, which helps us learn about your travel style, priorities, preferences, and the complexity of your journey. From there, we'll recommend the Blue Gato planning experience that best fits your needs.Once you select your service, we'll begin with a planning conversation and move through research, design, review, and refinement. Depending on your service, you'll either receive everything you need to make your own reservations or Blue Gato will coordinate and book eligible elements of your journey with you.Throughout the process, you'll know what we're working on, what decisions are needed from you, and what comes next.

How is Blue Gato different from using AI or planning on my own?

AI can be an incredibly useful travel-planning tool—and we think that's a good thing. But access to more information doesn't always make planning easier.Blue Gato brings human judgment to the process: listening to what matters to you, evaluating options, understanding tradeoffs, connecting the pieces of a journey, and helping you make confident decisions. We use technology where it makes planning better, but your journey isn't handed over to an algorithm.Think of AI as one of many tools available for planning travel. Blue Gato is your travel designer.

Blue Gato offers different levels of planning support so you can choose how much help you want.Refine is for one important travel decision, such as choosing between destinations, neighborhoods, accommodations, or vacation styles.Wayfinder experiences provide personalized research, recommendations, and itinerary design while leaving booking in your hands.Signature experiences provide a more hands-on partnership, with Blue Gato designing the journey and coordinating and booking eligible travel arrangements on your behalf.Within those experiences, the level of research, complexity, coordination, and personalization varies. Our Discovery Assessment can help identify the best fit for your journey.

How far in advance should I begin planning?

Earlier is usually better, particularly for journeys involving popular destinations, peak travel periods, multiple destinations, special experiences, or larger groups.As a general guideline, beginning several months in advance gives us more opportunity to thoughtfully consider your options. Complex or highly sought-after journeys may benefit from beginning six months to a year—or more—before departure.Planning something sooner? Don't assume you're too late. Contact us and we'll determine what can reasonably be accomplished within the time available.

Does Blue Gato book travel?

Yes. Booking support is included with Blue Gato's Signature planning experiences.With Wayfinder, Blue Gato does the research and design work and provides recommendations for you to book directly. Refine is intended for travelers who are primarily managing their own arrangements and would like thoughtful guidance on plans already underway.This structure lets you choose not only where you want to travel, but how much of the planning and booking process you want Blue Gato to carry for you.Blue Gato is able to book most travel needs, including hotels, vacation rentals, cruises, activities, dining reservations, and rail reservations.Blue Gato can research and make commercial flight recommendations, but cannot book commercial air travel. Blue Gato can reserve private air travel.

What is the difference between a travel designer and a traditional travel agent?

Traditional travel agencies have historically focused heavily on arranging and booking travel. Travel design begins earlier, with the experience itself.Blue Gato considers how you want to travel, what matters to you, how your days should feel, and how lodging, transportation, dining, activities, and time all work together. Booking may be part of that relationship, but it isn't where the relationship begins.Think of Blue Gato as a thoughtful companion in the planning process—helping turn possibilities into a journey that makes sense as a whole.

Do I need a large travel budget to work with Blue Gato?

No. Blue Gato believes meaningful travel is not defined by a particular price point.We work with the priorities and travel investment of each client to determine where thoughtful planning can add the greatest value. Sometimes that means an extraordinary hotel or private experience. Sometimes it means finding a wonderful neighborhood restaurant, choosing the right location, or simply using your time well.For us, thoughtful travel is about intention—not expense.

What if I've already started planning my trip?

That's perfectly fine. You don't need to hand Blue Gato a blank sheet of paper.If you've already selected destinations, booked portions of your trip, or created an itinerary, we can work from what you've built. What happens if something changes while I'm traveling?

Travel sometimes changes despite everyone's best planning. Weather happens. Flights move. Suppliers change schedules. Occasionally, a carefully planned day simply needs a new plan.Blue Gato will clearly explain the travel support included with your planning experience before your journey begins, along with important supplier and emergency resources. When appropriate, we'll also help you understand your options and where to turn if plans are disrupted.Blue Gato is not a 24-hour emergency response or on-demand concierge service, so we are careful not to promise support we cannot reliably provide. What we can promise is thoughtful preparation, clear expectations, and resources designed to help you travel with greater confidence.

How will I access my journey?

Every Blue Gato client receives a personalized Journey Companion designed to keep the important details of your journey organized and easy to access.Currently, your Journey Companion is delivered as a thoughtfully designed PDF containing your itinerary, reservations, recommendations, important travel details, and other information curated for your journey.Beginning with travel in December 2026, the Blue Gato Journey Companion app and website is on track to become your all-access guide and folio throughout your journey. Your personalized Journey Companion will bring your itinerary, accommodations, dining, activities, recommendations, logistics, destination information, and other useful travel details together in one place—designed around your specific journey.Until then, you'll receive the same thoughtful planning and curated journey information in your PDF Journey Companion.

What booking platform does Blue Gato use?

Blue Gato is an independent travel design business hosted by Fora. Fora provides booking infrastructure and access to travel partners, while Blue Gato remains your direct point of contact and designs your journey personally.For services that include reservations, Blue Gato will explain when and how Fora is involved.

Question 14

What if I want to cancel my trip?

Accepted Answer

Before the first consultation, clients are entitled to a full refund. Within 5 business days after the first consultation, a refund minus a $100 fee can be issued. After that 5-business-day window but before the second consultation, 50% of the planning fee is refundable. After the second consultation, the planning fee is nonrefundable. Can I use my frequent traveler points or miles to book travel with Blue Gato?

Absolutely! We understand that many travelers have loyalty to airlines, hotels, rental car agencies, and cruise lines. We will work with you to honor your frequent traveler benefits and, if you wish, to cash in on those points and/or miles.
